On November 8, the expansion project of Evonik's specialty amine plant officially started in Nanjing. With an investment of tens of millions of euros, the expansion will enable Evonik to acquire cost-effective raw materials and strengthen its amine portfolio. By increasing its production capacity in China, Evonik will increase its competitiveness, increase market efficiency, optimize its production network and contribute to future market development. The expansion is also in line with Evonik's strategic goal of global amine products and will further drive differentiated product offerings.

Dr. Claudine Mollenkopf, Head of Evonik's Specialty Additives business unit, said: "Asia is a strategic focus for our business expansion and we are confident in the future potential of the region, as confirmed by the expansion of the new specialty amines plant. This investment strengthens our position in the polyurethane and epoxy markets while demonstrating our commitment to sustainable growth and innovation. ”

Evonik's Nanjing site uses green electricity to produce amine-based additives, which are essential for industries such as construction, automotive, and home furnishings. These additives play an important role as catalysts in the polyurethane foaming reaction. The innovative catalyst also reduces odor and VOC emissions. In November 2023, Evonik signed a letter of intent with the Nanjing Municipal Government for the expansion of the site, which is expected to be completed in 2026.

"China is a dynamic and promising market, and the application prospects of polyurethane products in the construction, automotive and home furnishing sectors are very promising. By expanding our specialty amine production capacity, we are able to respond more flexibly to market needs and provide our customers with more competitive and sustainable solutions. We will continue to strengthen our commitment to China's Sustainable Development Goals and work with local partners to promote the green and high-quality development of the industry. ”

The expansion is in line with Evonik's strategic position to further strengthen its competitiveness by investing in cost-effective production sites in China.
